From Shabby to Chic

Painted furniture has been around forever and there is so much available to buy in todays market - however, there is a big difference between shabby chic and just plain shabby.

Taking a tired old piece of furniture and turning it into something contemporary and beautiful has been a passion of ours since we began. We’ve tried every type of paint, brush and technique going under the sun and there is one major factor that cannot be escaped when painting furniture. Its all in the prep!

The painting part is actually the easiest and the most fun 😁

When it comes to preparing a piece it’s so important to make sure it’s completely rubbed down with sandpaper so the paint has something to adhere to and then make sure the piece is dust free and cleaned. We recommend using methylated spirits as this removes grease, dirt and dust which makes it easier to create a smooth finish. Undercoat it also key in achieving a smooth finish. It also helps with the cost as top coatings can be pricey. We recommend farrow and ball paints for top coats, they have a range of beautiful colours and although it’s a bit more expensive than other products, we have found it to be high in quality as well as nice to work with.

We now offer a range of painted and shabby chic furniture available to purchase online https://www.vintagefurniture-emporium.com/shop?Collection=All
